The most commonly quoted definition for sustainable development is based on the Brundtland\u2019s Commission Report, which states that \u2018sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations to meet their own needs\u2019. Definitions of sustainability differ based on the situations and purposes. For the oil palm industry, the oil palm is an agriculture crop, thus sustainability means complying with the requirements of sustainable agriculture.
